Young & Thompson

In Memoriam:  Robert J. Patch

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Senior Partner, Robert John Patch (or “Bob” as he was affectionately called by family and friends), who passed away on September 5, 2013, at age 86.

Bob Patch had a remarkably long and productive career in the intellectual property field, first joining the U.S. Patent Office in September 1948 as an examiner, while attending the George Washington University Law School, from which he graduated in 1952.   Bob joined Young & Thompson in 1964, and was senior partner in the firm from 1975 until his death.

Over his 65-year career in intellectual property law, Bob helped to obtain more than 30,000 U.S. patents, a record not likely to be surpassed.  He took great satisfaction in his work, as well as that his son Andrew and granddaughter Pamela later joined him in practicing Patent Law at the firm.

His surviving partners, associates, and staff look to his example of steady leadership and professionalism in continuing the practice of Young & Thompson.
